SINGLE TICKETS FOR OPERA QUEENSLAND'S SEASON 2009 NOW ON SALE
Single tickets to Opera Queensland’s 2009 productions of La traviata, Fidelio, Dirty Apple, Waltzing Our Matilda and Rigoletto are now on sale.

Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata and Rigoletto top and tail the company’s season in May and October respectively, while July will see the curtain rise on three exciting works - the Australian première production of Fidelio from South African director/designer Marthinus Basson together with the world premières of Dirty Apple and Waltzing Our Matilda.

Sopranos Elvira Fatykhova, Emma Matthews and Anke Höppner will take to the Lyric and Conservatorium Theatre stages in three of operas leading female roles - Violetta Valéry (La traviata), Gilda (Rigoletto) and Leonore (Fidelio) respectively. For Matthews, it will be a role and company debut. Celebrated Australian baritone Michael Lewis AM will reprise the role of the scornful jester Rigoletto, a role which has garnered him critical acclaim here and overseas throughout his illustrious career.

The provocative youth opera Dirty Apple, which deals with the contentious issue of cyber bullying, will be presented as part of the Queensland Music Festival and Q150 celebrations. The seven performance season will be staged in the Brisbane Powerhouse Theatre, marking the first time that the company has presented a production at this venue. Co-production partners include Q150,Queensland Music Festival, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Backbone Youth Arts and Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

Two performances of the concert production Waltzing Our Matilda will be staged at the Conservatorium Theatre, created by popular Brisbane baritone Jason Barry-Smith and Narelle French and featuring the soaring voices of Opera Queensland’s Young Artists, who will perform classic Australian songs and little known gems from great Australian singers.
