What a buzz!

West End musician Nik Mayer-Miller off to Tokyo to study taiko and jazz percussion
West End musician, Nik Mayer-Miller, was recently awarded $2,500 through The Foundation for Young Australians’ Buzz Grants program in order to further his music career. He was one of 18 young musicians awarded funding in the latest round of grants in October. Nik will study under internationally renowned Japanese taiko and jazz percussionist Shoji Hano in Tokyo after being personally invited to take up a mentorship. Nik hopes the experience will greatly develop his professional music career and broaden his cultural understanding of the music industry. Buzz Grants provide flexible support for young musicians, sound artists and music-related arts workers aged 12-26 years, through funding of up to $2,500. Buzz grants are offered by The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) as a project of the Australian Government's Young and Emerging Artists' Initiative, through the Music Board of the Australia Council for the Arts, and the Australian Government arts funding and advisory body. FYA is a dynamic, independent, not-for-profit organisation. FYA focuses on funding and supporting partnerships and initiatives that positively contribute to the development of young people, their education and communities. FYA recently formalised an alliance with Education Foundation, consolidating an impressive scope of expertise and knowledge of the youth and education sectors. FYA is now the largest philanthropic organisation in Australia, which focuses solely on youth and education.
